We are so excited that Eid ul-Adha is in just a week or so. The Eid ul-Adha is an important holiday celebrating Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son, Ishmael. This willingness showed Ibrahim’s obedience to God’s command, but God showed mercy and intervened. These events occurred in the valley of Mecca about four thousand years ago. Ever since, the Eid Festival has been celebrated every year.
The Eid ul-Adha is important because it celebrates true submission to God, which is the Islamic faith’s cornerstone. It is a time for Muslims to learn the value of self-denial by making a sacrifice themselves.
Eid ul-Adha occurs on the tenth day of Dhu al-Hijjah and continues for four days. Eid ul-Adha is the second of two Eid holidays. The first one is Eid ul-Fitr, which celebrates the end of Ramadan. The last day of Eid ul-Adha is also called the Greater Eid or Feast of Sacrifice.
Eid ul-Adha is celebrated worldwide, from the Middle East to the United Kingdom to the United States. Many Muslims will go to mosque and listen to a sermon and pray during the celebration. Other traditions include wearing new clothing and spending time with friends and family members. Many people will even travel to Mecca and perform the Hajj pilgrimage during the Eid ul-Adha time. Many Muslims will also sacrifice a sheep and share the meat of the sacrifice with the poor.
To prepare themselves for the festival, many Muslims make wudhu by preparing personal cleanliness and their best clothing. This time of self preparation is important to put everyone in the right state of mind for the celebration and this special time.
This is a time for many Muslims to be introspective and imagine themselves in Ibrahim’s position.
- Would you be as willing to sacrifice your child or loved one?
- Have you ever been put in a difficult situation and have to work on faith alone?
- Are you willing to submit and do everything asked of you?
- Will you follow the requests and guidelines even if other people around you are not?
- Do you have the strength of character to truly submit and follow the requests?
These are questions that you should ask yourself.
Whether you are making an online purchase in Kuwait or simply at home with your family, the Eid Festival is a time for you to look at your beliefs and actions and make sure that you are the best version of yourself possible.
If you are not happy with how you have been acting in your life, this is a time to start making a plan to change your choices and your decisions and make new ones. This is a time to take action and become the person you want to be. Use Ibrahim’s example as model to model yourself after.
This is a time for gratitude and thankfulness and to be excited about everything that God has given you. It is a time to enjoy your family, loved ones, and everything that you have.
